Eco-model region
The Fichtelgebirge organic model region consists of the municipalities in the district of Wunsiedel im Fichtelgebirge. Here, sustainable projects for the development of organic farming are implemented, regional value chains are established and the population’s awareness of organic regional food is strengthened. Producers, processors, marketers and consumers are networked regionally – on a voluntary basis and without legal requirements.
The local development strategy served as the basis for the application to become an organic model region. The projects and measures serve the development goals contained therein, support their success and contribute in particular to supporting comprehensive sustainable regional development (ecological, economic, social) with a special focus on agriculture.
In the pioneering role
The organic model regions in Bavaria are funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry and are an important part of the state’s BioRegio 2030 program. The goals are to expand organic farming to 30% of agricultural land by 2030, to establish and expand regional organic value chains and to raise awareness for a higher appreciation of local organic food.
