Luisenburg artistic director – curious globetrotter
You are as free as you feel and you can live that out anywhere. But the Fichtelgebirge definitely offers you the space to do that.
Birgit Simmler // Director Luisenburg Festival
Birgit Simmler is a globetrotter, director, producer, play director and has an impressive CV.
She has now found the perfect place for herself and her family to live in the Fichtelgebirge. The multi-talented actress grew up in Münster and Regensburg, lived in Berlin for a long time until her career took her abroad and across the world.
She worked at the Raimund Theater in Vienna and later on Broadway in New York. Then her path led her to Sauerland, where she caught the country virus. Now she is the artistic director of the Luisenburg Festspiele.
And she has moved to the Fichtelgebirge with her entire family, including her grandparents. The Stadt Wunsiedel already has over 100 years of theater tradition, which is why people are open and curious about each other.
The artistic director admires this open society, which embraces this art, looks forward to new things and is still connected to its homeland. This is very different from what people in the countryside are said to be: stubborn, left-behind people who have not dared to venture out.
The director feels at home and at ease in the Fichtelgebirge. As a globetrotter who moved around a lot when she was young, this is incredibly fascinating and valuable for her.
Even her son, who didn’t really want to move, said after just two weeks “Mom, this feels just as much like home as before.” And that’s a great compliment to the region.
