Campaign “fichtelverkehr” – Better than Walking
Public transportation in rural areas is definitely in need of improvement, but in many respects, it is much better than its reputation. This is the belief of the mobility team in the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge, which has therefore launched an image campaign for local public transportation. Broad support also came from the two major district committees, the District Executive Committee and the District Council.
The goal of the “fichtelverkehr” campaign is to raise awareness of the existing services, encourage citizens to engage with these offerings – even critically – and, ideally, to motivate residents of the Fichtelgebirge to increase their use of public transportation. “fichtelverkehr – Better than Walking” draws on the successful campaigns #freiraumfürmacher and #freiraumfichtelgebirge and presents itself in the familiar colors and with a winking, self-ironic tone. The aim is to create recognition value while also presenting a less popular topic in a sympathetic light.
To reach a wide audience, the campaign utilizes all possible channels, advertising through social media, radio, and print, such as mailings and posters, for “fichtelverkehr.”
“As a district, we have long focused on sustainability and preserving our beautiful nature,” says District Administrator Peter Berek. “We are aware that in rural areas, it won’t be possible to function without a car. However, we also believe that our public transportation has more potential than our citizens are currently aware of. Therefore, we want to continuously modernize and expand the service while also improving its image. After all, what good is a suitable service if no one knows about it?”
