Erika Fuchs House | Museum for Comics and Language Arts

Welcome to Duckburg! Germany’s first comic museum is located in Schwarzenbach a.d. Saale. The translator Dr. Erika Fuchs, who taught Donald Duck and his friends the German language, lived here. A short walk connects the museum, home and grave with some of the town’s sights.

In Zwickau, you can roam through history: the city tour introduces you to the Gewandhaus, the Dünnebierhaus and St. Mary’s Cathedral with its medieval priests’ houses. The Postal Column and Powder Tower, relics of the town wall, bear witness to the long history of settlement on the Mulde.

Cycle tours

By bike to Franzensbad and the Soos nature reserve

The tour starts in Cheb and leads to the extinct volcano in Kammerbühl. After the next stage, there is a good opportunity to take a break in Franzensbad and relax like a spa guest. The route continues towards Hajek to the Soos nature reserve with a possible stopover at the butterfly house in Stodola. The circle closes along the Ohře/Eger back towards Cheb. The cycle tour through the Egerland is suitable for families.

Cycling fun and beer enjoyment in the Upper Palatinate Forest

The Upper Palatinate Forest greets you comfortably, but in a wildly romantic way, first on the Waldnaab cycle path and from Neustadt on the Bockl cycle path – a former railroad line. Castles, palaces, pilgrimage churches and rose quartz rocks line the route. You can eat well in the incomparable atmosphere of the Zoiglstuben – which tell of a 600-year-old brewing tradition.

In the Schleizer Oberland on the Euregio-Egrensis long-distance cycle path

The Schleizer Oberland has some superlatives to offer: Germany’s oldest natural race track – the Schleizer Dreieck, the largest reservoir – the Bleilochtalsperre, and the pond landscape in the land of a thousand lakes, which stretches across a plateau of the slate mountains. Cyclists can head north to the nature and landscape conservation area near Plothen or south to the Bleiloch dam.

Naabtal im Herbst

Stiftländer Karpfen-Radweg – excursion into the flora and fauna of the Waldnaabaue

A circular tour through the Waldnaabaue nature conservation project brings cyclists very close to beavers, ospreys, black storks and cranes. The fishing villages of Kornthan and Muckenthal or the fishing museum in Tirschenreuth are particularly interesting.

Family-friendly bridge cycle route Bavaria-Bohemia

The cycle path runs over a number of listed bridges through the unmistakable landscape of the Fichtelgebirge. The route is very flat and family-friendly on a former railroad line from Leupoldsdorf via Wunsiedel and Thiersheim to Selb. The bird of prey park with falconry in Wunsiedel is just as exciting as the Porzellanikon in Selb.

Eger cycle path

Cycling pleasure in the German-Czech border region. The long-distance cycle path stretches from the source to the estuary over a length of around 270 km. In the Fichtelgebirge, 50 km are tempting. Numerous highlights await along the way, such as the Schneeberg summit, Lake Weissenstadt, Loket Castle and, as a highlight at the end, the magnificent city center of Karlovy Vary.

Hiking tour

Journey into romance – around Bad Berneck on the Thiesenring

This varied hiking route leads over hills and through valleys in extensive deciduous forests. Numerous vantage points offer ever-changing views of Bad Berneck and the Fichtelgebirge. The romantically situated castle ruins of Neu-Wallenrode, the Kneipp spa gardens and the charming Ölschnitztal valley are just some of the highlights of the hike. Also worth seeing is the historic market square in the spa town of Bad Berneck – the “hidden paradise”.

Quality hiking trail through the Weiße Elster valley

The start is princely, the finish is rural – along the Weiße Elster you experience a journey through time. The first stops on the romantic quality hiking trail are the English-style park in Greiz and the summer palace with its collection of copper engravings. In Nitschareuth, it is worth visiting the farmer’s museum and the historic village green. From Neumühle back to Greiz, you can take a train ride along the river valley to take it all in again.

Nature trail to the Glatzen moor nature reserve

In the Kaiserwald forest, a nature trail leads to the Tajga moor, which is reminiscent of the vast Russian landscape with its Nordic coniferous forest and numerous lakes. On the nature trail, 14 information boards provide information about the special features of the nature reserve.

Steep uphill and downhill in Himmelskroner Forst

Between Neuenmarkt and Marktschorgast, the route takes you along the “Schiefe Ebene” educational trail on the history of engineering and construction through Himmelskroner Forst. In 1848, steam locomotives overcame a height difference of 158 meters and a gradient of 1:40 without technical aids for the first time on this railroad line. The German Steam Locomotive Museum in Neuenmarkt shows the history of the “black giants” and delights visitors with its steam locomotive show. In Marktschorgast station, an exhibition provides information about the details of the technical masterpieces and structures on the inclined plane.

Green forests, deep gorges along the Göltzsch and Weiße Elster rivers

On the “Vogtland Panorama Trail”, you can experience the two largest brick bridges in the world – the Göltzschtal and Elstertal bridges – on a hike from the start and finish points. The Köhlersteig trail through the wild and romantic gorge takes you through the Göltzschtal valley to where it flows into the Weiße Elster river in Greiz. The hiking trail then follows the Elster valley and runs through the Steinicht nature reserve. The hike is very varied.
