Cross-border mobility with EgroNet: Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge district takes over responsibility from Vogtland district

EgroNet is a cross-border transport network comprising 14 districts and independent cities from Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria and the Czech Republic. They cooperate with around 50 transport companies and jointly offer a cross-border ticket for bus and rail travel. The aim: to make mobility easier and more attractive for people in the border region.

Focus on digital products

Previously, the Vogtland transport association was responsible for the office – now the district of Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge is taking over responsibility. Dennis Fricken, specialist group leader of the mobility team in the district: “By taking over the business, we will also position EgroNet differently and focus on digital products, online sales and marketing, for example.”

Reorganization of the financing model and strengthening of cross-border mobility in EgroNet

The takeover of business operations is also based on a reorganization of the financing model, which was initiated at the general meeting in September. The membership fees for all shareholders were increased slightly. The district of Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge also intends to apply for Interreg funding amounting to 190,000 euros with a funding rate of 80 percent.

District Administrator Peter Berek is delighted that the district council has decided to take over the EgroNet office: “EgroNet has been a pioneering achievement in cross-border mobility and has worked extremely well over many years, organizing cross-border transport well. Especially now that the region is moving closer together, the mobility exchange between Germany and the Czech Republic must be maintained and further expanded. For us in particular, with our location directly on the border with the Czech Republic, such services are essential.”

EgroNet was created in the course of the EXPO 2000 world exhibition in Hanover. The current target group is occasional traffic. Both individual and group tickets therefore also offer free transportation for children and bicycles, for example.
